Iran says clearing mines from Strait of Hormuz is Tehran's responsibility, no intervention needed
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei said that clearing the Strait of Hormuz of mines is within Iran's area of responsibility and that there is no need for intervention by other parties.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei announced that the issue of clearing the Strait of Hormuz of mines is within Iran's area of responsibility and that there is no need for intervention by other parties.
Baghaei answered journalists' questions at a weekly press conference in the capital Tehran. Evaluating French President Emmanuel Macron's statement that Paris would clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines in cooperation with its partners, Baghaei said, "Clearing the Strait of Hormuz of mines is Iran's responsibility. There is no need for intervention by other parties. Expressing an opinion on every issue does not mean assuming responsibility."
The Iranian spokesman reminded that there is no planned meeting with the US at the moment, and stated that efforts to release Iran's frozen assets are ongoing and they hope it will yield results. Baghaei emphasized that for the negotiation process with the US to begin, the provisions of the memorandum of understanding must be fulfilled and the implementation must be made continuous. "As long as the other party fulfills its obligations, we will fulfill our own obligations. Tomorrow, our expert team will hold talks with the Qatari side in Doha regarding the frozen assets," he said.
Also evaluating the recent US attacks on Iran, Baghaei stated that Tehran does not leave any action unanswered, saying, "Our armed forces have the capacity to respond to any attack."
