Iraq said airstrikes destroyed a hideout in the Wadi Zgaitun area north of Kirkuk province where ISIS members were believed to be located.
In a statement issued Monday night, the Security Media Cell said the operation was part of intelligence efforts to track remnants of the terrorist organization. The operation was based on precise information provided by the Directorate of Military Intelligence, the statement said.
The statement said that after ISIS members in the hideout were identified, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out two airstrikes on the area. It said the hideout was completely destroyed and all elements inside were killed.
The Security Media Cell did not provide a figure for the number of people killed in the operation.
Operations against ISIS continue
Iraq declared victory over ISIS in December 2017 after years of conflict. Despite this, the group's cells have continued to operate in some areas of the country's north, west and east and to carry out sporadic attacks.
Iraqi forces continue military and security operations against ISIS remnants.
