Istanbul will host the International Islamic Publishing Workshop on September 25-27, with more than 200 publishers from 67 countries. The event will be held at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
The workshop will be organized by the International Islamic Book Publishers Association with the support of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.
International cooperation in publishing
Publishers, institutions and experts active in Islamic publishing will come together at the event. Participants will discuss ways to develop international cooperation in the sector, expand work on copyright and translation rights, and implement joint projects.
Representatives of publishing houses, universities, civil society organizations, book distribution companies, libraries, copyright agencies, writers’ associations and professional publishers’ organizations will attend the workshop.
More than 30 international institutions and organizations will support the event, including the Türkiye International Islamic University of Science and Technology, the International Islamic University Malaysia, the International Islamic University Islamabad, the International Union of Islamic Schools and the Kuwait Islamic Book Fair.
Various topics to be discussed in 12 sessions
Copyright and translation rights, book distribution, libraries, academic publishing, Islamic children’s books, digital publishing and international book fairs will be addressed on a single platform at the workshop.
The event will begin on September 25. Following the opening ceremony, an international session will be held to assess the position of Islamic publishing in a changing world.
Participants will exchange views on current issues and the future of Islamic publishing in 12 sessions devoted to different topics. The sessions will cover relations among members and international solidarity, culture and education, international book fairs, international relations, advertising and promotion, publishing and quality standards, and copyright and translation rights.
The meetings will also address research and report preparation, the publication of Islamic children’s books, book distribution and libraries, legal issues, ethics and dispute resolution, digital publishing, and data and technology.
Report to be prepared after the meetings
A report will be prepared following the meetings, where participants’ experiences and recommendations will be discussed. The reports will be submitted to the participants for review on the second day of the workshop.
The event aims to turn the recommendations into concrete international cooperation and strengthen the basis for joint work in Islamic publishing.
