Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni became head of the longest-serving government in the history of the Italian Republic, 1,413 days after taking office. Meloni also became the longest-serving prime minister of Italy's postwar republican era.
Meloni took office on October 22, 2022. She therefore surpassed the record set by Silvio Berlusconi's second government, which served for 1,412 days between June 11, 2001, and April 23, 2005.
The record will be celebrated in Bari
The record will be celebrated at an event in Bari, a port city in southern Italy, on Friday. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend.
Security measures are expected to be raised to the highest level during the event amid concerns about possible protests.

Meloni emphasizes stability
Meloni's Brothers of Italy party released a celebratory video featuring footage from the prime minister's nearly four-year tenure. The video used the slogan, "The most stable government, the strongest Italy."
Meloni also said in a post on X that she welcomed the record. She said stability was not a record to boast about, but a condition that enables a country to plan, make decisions, fulfill its commitments and earn respect.
