Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi shared his Turkish coffee experience in Ankara, where he was to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit.
Motegi stated in a video he posted on the social media platform of the American company X that he had the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional Turkish beverage during breaks between meetings and talks.
In his post, the Japanese minister said, "During breaks between various meetings and talks in Turkey, I drank real Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee is unique not only in the way it is prepared and drunk, but also because the enjoyment continues after drinking it."
He explained how the coffee is prepared
In the video, the head of Japanese diplomacy said that Turkish coffee is one of the symbols of Turkey. Motegi explained that the beverage is prepared without using a filter, the coffee is boiled directly in water, the grounds are allowed to settle to the bottom, and then the clear part is drunk.
He will try fortune-telling
Sharing his impressions after tasting the coffee, Motegi said, "It wasn't as bitter as I expected and it seems to have a natural, pleasant aroma. Another feature of Turkish coffee is that the enjoyment continues after drinking it. What happens next? They turn the cup upside down and wait. According to what they told me, fortune-telling is done from the remaining coffee grounds."
Speaking with a smile, Minister Motegi added, "I will also try fortune-telling and learn how the international situation will develop."
