Police in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, took extensive security measures following a threat against the Aksa Mosque, which is affiliated with the Swiss Turkish Religious Foundation.
According to local media reports, a threat message about the mosque was received by police, after which a large number of units were dispatched. The police teams dispatched to the scene closed the street where the mosque is located to traffic and secured the area.
According to witnesses, during the operation that began in the morning hours, police cordoned off the mosque's perimeter with tape and conducted a search and inspection. The street remained closed to traffic for more than two hours.
In a written statement, police indicated that security measures were implemented both inside and outside the mosque. No details were provided regarding the content of the threat message.
While an investigation was launched into the incident, the police statement noted that the perpetrator of the threat could face criminal liability as well as substantial financial sanctions.
Towards noon, the security measures around the mosque were lifted. The mosque administration decided, as a precaution, not to hold Friday prayers this week and advised worshippers to go to other nearby mosques.
Sources from Turkey's Consulate General in Zurich reported that the diplomatic mission is in contact with cantonal authorities regarding the matter.
