A judicial investigation has been opened into the heavy rain and flooding that hit Istanbul. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced the probe into the events, in which two people lost their lives.
"Work is being carried out meticulously to shed light on all aspects of the incidents, identify any negligence and fault, and uncover the material truth," Gürlek said, offering condolences to the families of the victims.

Two people lost their lives
In Wednesday’s downpour, a 14-year-old was electrocuted after stepping into a puddle in Fatih’s Balat neighborhood, and a 34-year-old died after falling and hitting his head on the pavement while trying to cross floodwaters in Sarıyer’s Ayazağa neighborhood. AFAD and the 112 emergency line received 2,518 calls, and the historic Sadabad Mosque was flooded when the Kağıthane Stream overflowed.
No information was given on which institutions or individuals the investigation covers. Forecasters have issued a new heavy rain warning for parts of Istanbul on Friday.
