A new rain warning has been issued for Istanbul, where floods killed two people this week. According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service, local heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected in some districts of Istanbul on Friday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
The rain is expected to hit the European side and northern districts in particular. The yellow warning also covers parts of Kırklareli and Tekirdağ. Forecasters urged residents to be cautious about the risk of flash floods, flooding, lightning and landslides. Schools in Istanbul had already been closed for Friday.
Another day off for Sakarya schools
The Sakarya Governor’s Office announced that, due to an orange-level rain warning, education at all public and private schools and institutions across the province will be suspended for one day on Friday, Oct. 16, marking a second straight day of closures.

Under the decision, female staff with children in kindergarten or primary school, as well as disabled, seriously chronically ill and pregnant public employees, will be on administrative leave on Friday.
