Ankara Keçiörengücü will visit Antalyaspor at 21:30 on Saturday, August 8, in their opening match of the 2026–2027 Trendyol 1. Lig season. The Ankara side want to make a strong start to the league by returning from the difficult away fixture with a victory.
Head coach Osman Zeki Korkmaz said the preparation period, conducted in three stages in Ankara, Gerede and Bolu, had been productive. Korkmaz said one of the most important gains of the pre-season was completing the camp without suffering a serious injury.
Korkmaz: We want to be an extraordinary team
Korkmaz said Keçiörengücü was one of the exemplary clubs in Turkish football thanks to its facilities and institutional structure, adding that they wanted to reflect this approach on the pitch as well.
Korkmaz said the team consisted of players with character and talent, adding that their primary objective was to support the footballers’ sporting and individual development. The head coach said they wanted the players to make progress mentally, physically and tactically by the end of the season and increase their value in the football market.
Korkmaz said a club that had completed its facilities and stood on its own feet deserved to compete in the Süper Lig, adding that they aimed to develop players and a style of play without disrupting the club’s financial balance. Korkmaz said they wanted to properly assess players from the lower leagues and those who had fallen short of expectations in Europe and help them contribute to the club. He added that promotion to the top flight would make them happy, but their priority was to build a competitive team that entertained spectators and contributed to Turkish football.
Korkmaz said the new signings would make an important contribution to the team, adding that the club was developing not only through external transfers but also through its own young players. The head coach said he was pleased with the new players’ character and work discipline and believed competition within the squad would raise performance levels.
Season objectives will become clearer in the weeks ahead
Korkmaz noted that many teams in the Trendyol 1. Lig had started the season with the aim of reaching the Süper Lig, saying the objectives would become clearer as the league progressed.
Korkmaz said the league contained many teams with strong squads, adding that around 10 sides were targeting promotion to the Süper Lig, while only three would achieve it at the end of the season. He highlighted the importance of keeping the squad’s group mentality alive and preserving Keçiörengücü’s competitive identity until the end of the season, regardless of where they stood in the race.
Preparation for the Antalyaspor match
Korkmaz said Antalyaspor had largely kept its squad despite being relegated from the Süper Lig, adding that their opponents had a strong club structure and an experienced head coach in Bülent Korkmaz.
Korkmaz said they prepared for every match with the aim of winning and noted that they would be playing away against a team of Süper Lig caliber. The head coach said their objective was victory, but added that starting the league without a defeat would also be valuable.
Abdullah Çelik: We want to do better
Defender Abdullah Çelik said the new signings had adapted to the team in a short time and that important reinforcements had been made in the areas where they were needed.
Recalling that they had played in the play-offs last season, Çelik said they wanted to achieve a better result this year and remain in the race for the play-offs and the championship. He said his individual objective was to make the best possible contribution to the team and make his mark on the league with his performances.
Çelik said they expected a difficult match away to Antalyaspor and would take the field targeting three points. Calling on the supporters to back the team at all times, Çelik said he believed they would be stronger when they felt the support from the stands.
