The “United in a Common Future” communications campaign prepared by the Presidency of Communications was introduced to the public at a launch event in Ankara. Speaking at the event, which was attended by Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, Kurtulmuş said, “We are successfully advancing the Terror-free Türkiye process, and we will successfully complete it. Terrorism will be removed from Türkiye’s agenda in all its forms.”
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, who delivered the opening remarks, explained that the campaign has three main functions: communicating the process with accurate information, listening to different segments of society and contributing to the development of a vision for a common future among these groups. Duran said the launch event was the first stage of a communications mobilization, adding that workshops would be held through 17 regional directorates and that cooperation with universities would aim to enable young people to contribute to the process.
Duran: “Our common past is not a chain but the compass of our future”
Speaking about Türkiye’s position at a historic crossroads, Duran said, “The ideal of a Terror-free Türkiye and a terror-free region has, through the strong leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the call by Nationalist Movement Party Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, rapidly become a comprehensive goal for our country’s future.” Duran stressed that ending terrorism would in itself be a major achievement, but said the vision for the future went beyond that. He said the real issue was how Türkiye, freed from the shadow of terrorism, would make use of its potential and strengthen its social bonds.
Emphasizing a common future, Duran said, “Our unity in a common future will thwart the scenarios of disintegration and fragmentation that imperialists have devised for more than a century. Our common past will not be a chain but the compass of our common future.” Duran said the adoption, with the approval of 467 lawmakers, of the bill on strengthening national solidarity and social integration prepared by the Turkish Parliament demonstrated the process’s democratic legitimacy. He added that provocative information would not be allowed to incite the process and that it was important to speak with verified information even in response to the smallest social media post.
Duran said the goal of a Terror-free Türkiye was being pursued together with the vision of a terror-free region, adding, “Our effort is to make the Türkiye Century an era of peace and stability for our entire region.” He said the nation’s common will, historical heritage and expectations for the future placed important responsibilities on everyone in pursuit of the goal of brotherhood.
Kurtulmuş: “The state’s wisdom and the nation’s conscience converged”
Kurtulmuş recalled that terrorism had been one of the most difficult and destructive problems of the republic’s first century. He said that tens of thousands of people had lost their lives, thousands had become martyrs and Türkiye’s resources had largely been devoted to this struggle during the period, which lasted nearly 50 years. “Terror-free Türkiye is the biggest project of our republic’s second century,” Kurtulmuş said, stressing that terrorism would be removed from Türkiye’s agenda in all its forms.
Kurtulmuş said that, for the first time in Türkiye’s fight against terrorism, the state’s justified position and the nation’s conscience had converged. He noted that the organization’s clear expression of its willingness to lay down its arms, surrender its weapons and dissolve its organizational activities was one of the process’s most important stages.
Emphasizing Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood, Kurtulmuş said, “We are all people of the same land, the same civilization and the same tradition. It is impossible by any measure to separate the children of Sultan Alp Arslan from one another.” Kurtulmuş said, “The real issue is not between Turks and Kurds. The real issue is the interventions of imperialist powers that have sought to reshape this region for more than a century. Through the borders they drew, they tried to separate the people of the same region from one another.”
“Türkiye must be a pillar of security in the region”
Addressing developments in the region, Kurtulmuş said Israel’s attacks against Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Yemen and Qatar, as well as its inhumane attacks in the West Bank, had deepened insecurity in the region. Saying, “Türkiye must be one of the pillars of security in this increasingly insecure region,” Kurtulmuş stressed that Türkiye had demonstrated a determined will to strengthen its internal front and eliminate factors that could lead to discord and division.
Kurtulmuş recalled that the Commission for National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy, established within the Turkish Parliament with the participation of all political parties, had placed a roadmap before Türkiye. He said the passage, with the votes of 467 lawmakers, of the law adopted on August 10 was of historic importance. Kurtulmuş noted that there were also people seeking to derail the process and said the Turkish media had a major responsibility in this regard and should remain vigilant against provocations.
At the end of the event, Duran presented Kurtulmuş with a specially designed handmade plate featuring gold-leaf detailing and the inscription “Bismillah.”
