The legendary Yeşilçam figure Kadir İnanır was laid to rest with a funeral ceremony held in Istanbul. Following the funeral prayer performed after the noon prayer at Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Mosque, İnanır's body was interred at Ulus Cemetery.
Among those attending the funeral were Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, Vice President of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Nuri Aslan, former Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay, and numerous figures from the art world. The heavy turnout occasionally led to crowding.
Speaking to the press before the prayer, Minister Ersoy said, "Sadly, we are one by one losing the unique values of an era, of Yeşilçam, that reached into our lives and became part of our homes and families. We bid farewell to them one by one and send them off to the afterlife." Emphasizing that Kadir İnanır was a unique figure, Ersoy stated, "He was a very important artist, first and foremost for the exemplary works he brought to Turkish cinema and the films he brought to life in the Turkish classics of our cinema. I extend my condolences to his family, his loved ones, all art lovers, and our art community. May God have mercy on him. May his soul find peace and his place be in paradise."
Former National Football Team Technical Director Şenol Güneş described İnanır as one of the doyens of cinema. Actress Hülya Avşar expressed her sorrow, saying, "I was in shock because I thought he would recover, appear in commercials again, and be with us." Avşar noted that seeing the values of Yeşilçam disappear one by one deeply affected her, adding, "I feel a strong urge to hold on tightly to what remains. I think about how we can truly appreciate their value. Because we think about these things with every loss, but then we forget."
Famous names among the attendees also included Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, Halil Ergün, Ahmet Yenilmez, Oktay Kaynarca, and İlyas Salman.
Memorial Ceremony at Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage
Before the funeral, a memorial program was held at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage. The ceremony, attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu, Director General of Cinema Birol Güven, and General Manager of State Theaters Tamer Karadağlı, began with a screening of a segment from the documentary "The Man from the North."
Giving the first speech, Jülide Kural emphasized İnanır's humanity and conscience, stating, "You all know his overflowing anger in the face of injustice, his ability to express his love without needing words, his conscience that rose against poverty, injustice, and inequality, and sometimes his tears as a friend in his heart's fragility. Perhaps it's something I always witnessed as he built his own acting career in cinema, his greatest passion. His heart, his instincts, and most importantly, his curiosity and courage to look at life with a smile were the places he always returned to. I always watched him through these processes, and that was a great privilege for me."
Actor Menderes Samancılar, recalling that İnanır had compiled the Hekimoğlu Folk Song, said, "We used to embrace each other like friends; he was a huge fig tree for me. A heart constantly giving sweet figs, looking at life with sweetness, full of peace, brotherhood, and love. We will never forget a value like Kadir İnanır."
İnanır's nephew, Levent İnanır, recounted his uncle saying in an interview, "If I die one day, there will be funerals from every house in Turkey." Levent İnanır said, "Again, in his own words, 'My body will go, but the films I made will be watched with pleasure years later.' All his films were quality works that touched on social issues and chose their heroes from among us. That is why he will leave a mark on all of you. We will continue our lives with those marks. That is why I am not saying goodbye to him. He will live within us, he is living."
Another nephew, Soner Arıca, expressed his feelings by saying, "My emotions are shattered; I can't believe it's real. I think it's impossible for such a thing to happen. Because I don't like the word death anyway, but there's no other word for it. It doesn't suit anyone, yes, but it never suited Uncle Kadir. He wasn't just my uncle; he was the uncle, the elder brother, the sibling of the whole country. Of course, for me, he wasn't just an uncle; he was also an artist I greatly admired, a great actor." Arıca, noting that he had recently lost his mother as well, stated, "Three days ago, my mother; we are going through such a strange process with three days apart. I am truly sorry, I am in shock. I think the essence of the people who loved him is here, as much as can fit here. I think the whole country is here right now. That's how I feel."
Film critic Atilla Dorsay, stating that Yeşilçam was a legend, said, "Just as there is Hollywood in America, there was Yeşilçam here, and the films Yeşilçam made made people rush to cinemas. We got to know Kadir İnanır. He was in a very different place. There were many artists. But with the nearly 180 films he made, he endeared himself to our people with all those films. I don't know if a man like him can ever come after him."
During the ceremony, figures such as Adil Kaya, Ali Gündoğdu, Köksal Holoğlu, Kerim Yıldız, his spiritual daughter Aslı Kızıltuğ, Baran Yıldız, Nevsal Elevli, Canan Kaftancıoğlu, Ada Cemal, Cemal Kayacı, Sali Turan, and his niece Gül Bakar also took the stage to share their feelings and thoughts. The memorial program concluded with participants passing in front of İnanır's coffin to pay their respects.
