Los Angeles City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, who is of Armenian origin, reacted to the "Turkish Vibe Zone" event area set up in downtown Los Angeles.
Regarding the structure placed in Grand Park directly opposite City Hall, Nazarian stated, "The Republic of Turkey erected a large structure in Grand Park right across from our City Hall that says 'Türkiye Burada!' This is an insult to Armenians."
The "Turkish Vibe Zone" was launched with the support of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications to promote Turkish culture as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The event, spanning an area of 3,050 square meters within the Gloria Molina Grand Park, is welcoming visitors between June 18 and 26.
Nazarian's outburst has gone down as the first political criticism directed at the event's cultural promotion mission.
