US actor Mark Ruffalo harshly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who welcomed the dismissal of International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan.
In a post on his X account, Ruffalo stated that Khan's dismissal would not erase Israel's war crimes in Gaza, saying, 'You cannot escape justice. You cannot influence history. You are a maniacal killer, Benjamin Netanyahu. You will always be remembered this way.'
ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan's Dismissal Process
In May 2024, Karim Khan had requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Then, after sexual harassment allegations against him surfaced, he voluntarily took leave in May 2025.
An independent panel appointed by the ICC concluded in its March review that it 'found no misconduct or breach of duty' by Khan. However, the Bureau of the ICC Assembly of States Parties, at its meeting on June 8, decided that Khan had 'grossly abused his office' and temporarily removed the chief prosecutor.
In a secret ballot held on July 24 at the Assembly of States Parties for the final decision, it was announced that Karim Khan had committed 'serious misconduct and breach of duty' and was removed from office under Article 46 of the Rome Statute by an absolute majority.
Khan's lawyers, however, argued that they were denied the right to defense and accreditation during the voting process, and that the process was unlawful and procedurally unfair.
Karim Khan was elected ICC Chief Prosecutor in February 2021 and took office on June 16, 2021, after being sworn in.
