McLaren has launched the Oscar Piastri-themed LEGO helmet set specially prepared for the Formula 1 team's 1000th World Championship Grand Prix start. The set, introduced before the Monaco Grand Prix, was announced alongside the model prepared for Lando Norris.
Both helmet sets consist of 793 pieces. The designs are inspired by the special real helmets prepared for McLaren's 1000th race celebrations and bring LEGO minifigures to these products for the first time.
Separate designs for Piastri and Norris
Piastri's set combines McLaren's papaya color with the blue tones preferred by the driver. Norris's model features a design dominated by fluorescent yellow and includes the number he won as a world champion.
As part of the launch, the real helmets that Piastri and Norris will use this weekend in Monaco were also prepared alongside the LEGO sets. These designs stood out as part of the team's milestone race start celebrations.
Joint message from the companies
Louise McEwen, McLaren's senior marketing executive, said the collaboration was shaped around creativity, innovation, and engaging the new generation of fans. McEwen noted that the drivers' helmet designs were recreated with LEGO interpretation and reflected on the track in Monaco as well.
Julia Goldin, senior executive for products and marketing at LEGO Group, described the work as a true co-creation process carried out by all parties together. Goldin said fans could build the sets at home and display them as a memento of racing history.
Piastri delighted with his own minifigure
In a video shared on social media, Piastri expressed excitement about seeing a LEGO minifigure of himself. The Australian driver said the figure's hair was well represented and looked quite like him.
Piastri also noted that the minifigure was designed with a casual outfit featuring shorts, slippers, and a shirt bearing a kangaroo logo. The driver said the figure was very cool and that he would keep one by his bedside from now on.
LEGO's interest in Formula 1 is expanding
This launch also highlighted LEGO's growing presence in Formula 1. Following the company's multi-year partnership starting in 2025, helmet sets themed around Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton for Ferrari were also released this year.
Replicas of Formula 1 cars from different eras have also been previously offered for sale. The new sets exclusive to McLaren are now available worldwide in LEGO stores and through the McLaren Racing Store.
