The Iranian Football Federation announced that 31-year-old Mehdi Torabi's single-entry US visa has expired and a new visa application has been submitted. Torabi was part of the national team squad in the Group G match against New Zealand in Los Angeles, which ended 2-2.
This development drew attention ahead of Iran's upcoming group matches. Iran will face Belgium on Sunday, June 21, and Egypt on Saturday, June 27.
It was reported that after the New Zealand match, the Iranian National Team delegation was not allowed to conduct recovery training at the stadium and was asked to return to their camp in Mexico.
Strong Reaction from the Technical Staff
Iran National Team Head Coach Amir Ghalenoei said the situation has been challenging for them. Ghalenoei stated that they were told to leave immediately and expressed that they did not understand the reason behind this.
He described the situation as very strange and added that it seemed like the team’s planning was being controlled by others.
The Iranian coach claimed that the national team is the most pressured and most oppressed team in the tournament.
Due to the uncertainty in the visa process, it remains unclear whether Torabi will be able to play in Iran’s group stage matches.
