Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made statements to journalists during the ongoing Climate Week events in London. Bayraktar stated that Türkiye has put electrification at the center of its energy strategy.
Minister Bayraktar explained that the term 'electrification' refers to the process of transitioning systems and sectors from a structure based on traditional fuels such as coal, natural gas and oil to electrical energy.
Bayraktar, noting that Türkiye, as the President of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), aims to increase the global electrification rate to 35 percent by 2035, said, 'This is a very ambitious target, but if we cannot achieve it, it will be difficult for the world to reach its climate goals.'
Bayraktar emphasized that the transition to electrification covers all areas of the economy, using the expression, 'When we talk about electrification, we are talking about electrifying all areas of the economy.'
Türkiye will host COP31 this year in Antalya from November 9-20.
