More than 16 strategic cooperation agreements were signed between France and Syria during President Emmanuel Macron's visit, covering energy, infrastructure, economy, aviation, transport and investment, among other areas.
A Syrian Foreign Ministry representative described Macron's visit to Damascus as a 'historic turning point' in bilateral relations. The representative said the visit yielded significant results in political, economic and investment fields.
The representative stressed that the more than 16 strategic agreements signed are a sign of mutual trust between the two countries, and said they would create new cooperation opportunities in economic, investment and development fields between Syria and France.
The official said the results of the visit show that Syria is entering a new phase of international partnership based on mutual interest and respect, and added that attempts to destabilize the country cannot alter this process.
The Syrian representative also addressed the explosion that occurred during Macron's visit, noting that despite two primitive bomb attacks, state institutions managed the situation effectively and these acts were unable to affect the visit's program or objectives.
The representative underlined that the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks will be brought to justice, saying, 'Justice will surely hold to account the terrorist hands that want neither stability for Syria nor for the world.'
The Syrian official added that terrorist acts cannot halt Syria's reconstruction process and its opening up to the outside world. 'Terrorism cannot stop the march toward stability and international cooperation, nor can it undermine Syria's reconstruction and the strengthening of its international partnerships,' he said.
