Sudenur Aslan, a student at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Coaching, and a Fenerbahçe Sports Club athlete, has set her sights on Olympic gold after her world championship victory in boxing.
In a statement, Aslan said she loves boxing and is constantly improving herself, adding that she became champion in the 2024 and 2025 Turkish Youth and Junior Women's Championships and then placed third in the world.
The determined national boxer continued her hard work and won the gold medal in the 81 kg category at the 2025 World Youth Boxing Championship in Budva, Montenegro, becoming world champion.
She became champion despite her family's opposition
Aslan emphasized that her family objected to her taking up the sport when she started, saying, "My family opposed it. They said, 'You can't do a men's sport.' I persevered, worked hard, and with my coach I got to where I am. Now they support me and watch me with pride. My family is now my biggest supporter. We are six sisters and I am the youngest."
Targeting the 2028 Olympics
Aslan expressed that she always carries the pride of her world championship and continues training without a break, and that in the future she wants to raise athletes like herself. Stating that her goal is to win gold at the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, the young athlete said, "I am currently studying coaching and I want to become a coach in the future. My friends and family are hopeful for me. I want to be an Olympic champion and a world champion again."
Full support from her coach
Coach Mehmet Dalbudak said Sudenur became interested in boxing during talent screenings at schools and began the sport. Dalbudak noted that she stands out for her combative nature and strong performances against opponents, and after winning two Turkish championships, she was elevated to the senior national team this year.
Dalbudak said, "Sudenur is an athlete who became world champion after finishing third in the world. Hopefully she will also realize her Olympic goal. We will raise our flag and have our national anthem played. We are working with our athlete towards these goals."
Dalbudak also described the efforts to convince Sudenur's family, saying, "Her father and mother were not willing at first. In fact, when taking her to her first competition, they didn't want to send her. I met with her family and persuaded them. After her family got to know me, they let Sude go. Today we have a Turkish and world champion athlete."
