Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ evaluated the performances of the Turkish Women's and Men's National Volleyball Teams in the second leg of the FIVB Nations League (VNL).
Üstündağ emphasized that Turkish volleyball, in both women's and men's categories, is a source of pride for the country, saying, "Turkish volleyball, with both its women and men, continues to be the pride of this country. Looking at our last 10 matches, we closed the process with 9 wins and 1 loss. This is a very important result."
Men's team makes history
Noting that the Turkish Men's National Volleyball Team rose to 9th place in the FIVB world rankings for the first time in its history, entering the top 10, Üstündağ stated that this achievement is also significant for the Olympic goal.
Üstündağ said, "In the second leg, we came very close to a perfect 4-0 record by beating world number one Poland. We got three wins in the last leg but narrowly missed defeating Poland. Why not a perfect 4-0 in the final leg? If the men's team qualifies for the final round, it will be a first in its history. We want to continue our successes and play in the final with both of our teams. Our goal is always the championship. Our goal, dream, and excitement to be on the podium have not diminished, and they will not diminish. I believe we will achieve these and reach the result."
Women's team aims for another 4-0
Stating that the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team achieved a great success by going 4-0 in the second leg of the VNL played in Ankara, Üstündağ said, "We want to continue this success of our women's team in the final leg to be played in Japan. We aim to win all of our matches against Poland, the USA, Japan, and Thailand. The points to be gained here are also very important. By maintaining our place in the world rankings, we want to continue being a branch that represents Turkish sports in the Olympics, both in women's and men's categories."
Only team sport at the Olympics
Reminding that volleyball was the only team sport in which Turkey was represented at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Üstündağ said, "Volleyball was the only branch representing our country in this sense. We advanced to the semi-finals in Paris. Volleyball has always been a branch that gives hope and is a source of pride in the Olympics and European championships. The basis of this is that we always keep our standards high."
