Within the scope of a $1.5 billion investment program covering 2023-2027, the Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) is establishing a new production facility in Samsun. The idle old sugar factory has been transformed into a modern ammunition production center, aiming to increase domestic production capacity in the defense industry.
With an investment of approximately $10 million, the renovated facility will produce MK series aircraft bombs, which are among the critical needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. The project is expected to create a faster and more efficient capacity in ammunition production.
Goal to Increase Production Capacity
With the commissioning of the facility, a significant increase in MKE's ammunition production capacity is anticipated. This increase is expected to contribute both to meeting current demands and strengthening strategic production capabilities.
The factory is planned to start operations in the second half of 2026. According to the schedule, the facility will help achieve faster results in production for the Turkish Armed Forces.
On-site Inspection Conducted
The project was among the investments personally inspected by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. It was emphasized that the facility is part of strategic efforts aimed at reducing Turkey's dependency on foreign sources in the defense industry.
The investment in Samsun is also notable for repurposing an old industrial site for defense production. The facility, built with modern production infrastructure, is expected to contribute to the domestic and national production initiative.
As one of the prominent projects within MKE's investment program, the facility aims to strengthen the production chain in the defense industry. The new capacity to be established is intended to provide additional technical and operational capabilities to the institution.
