Verses by Orhan Veli Kanık, one of the significant figures of Turkish poetry, are being brought back to the stage as part of the “Istanbul Meets Poetry” project by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres.

“Birdenbire,” created from Orhan Veli’s poems, goes beyond a traditional poetry recital by bringing poetry together with the theatrical possibilities of the stage, music and visual design.
Directed and arranged by Hümay Güldağ, who also takes part as an actor, the event presents Orhan Veli’s poems to the audience accompanied by original compositions. Works by artist Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu are also used as part of the production’s visual narrative.

Cihan Kurtaran composed the event’s music, while Cihan Aşar is responsible for the set design, Ahsen Nur Yaman for the costume design, Gökhan Davulcu for the lighting design and Özgür Yaşar İşler for the effects design.
Running for approximately 45 minutes, “Birdenbire” will be staged at Müze Gazhane Meydan Stage at 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, and Sunday, October 25. The event will bring Orhan Veli’s distinctive poetic world to Istanbul’s art lovers through a new stage experience.
