The Nigeria National Team reshaped its squad ahead of the friendly matches against Poland and Portugal scheduled for next month. Head coach Eric Chelle announced that several key players will not be able to play in these two matches. The most notable absence in the squad was Victor Osimhen. The star striker was given permission to focus on his personal matters. It was stated that this decision was related to uncertainties about his club future. Osimhen's name had recently been linked with transfer talks with Galatasaray. Therefore, it was noted that the player wanted to fully concentrate on his future. Ademola Lookman was also among the players who will not be able to play in the friendly matches. It was expressed that the player was given extra time to rest and prepare for the new season after a busy season. Samuel Chukwueze was removed from the squad due to his mother's funeral held in Nigeria. The technical staff allowed the player to go through the mourning process with his family. Midfielders Alhassan Yusuf and Samson Tijani will also not be able to attend the matches in Europe because their visa procedures were not completed. The two players were able to participate in the Unity Cup event in London but could not obtain the necessary documents to enter the Schengen area. Nigeria won the Unity Cup by defeating Jamaica 3-0 in the final. The absences following this victory led Chelle to reorganize his plans against Poland and Portugal.
