Türkiye’s first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, was sent off on Saturday from Filyos Port in Zonguldak to its post at the Sakarya Gas Field. The platform will operate about 170 kilometers offshore for 20 years.
Addressing the ceremony by video, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “The Osman Gazi is the first factory of the Blue Homeland. Today we are opening a brand-new page in our energy history.” He added that Türkiye was sending “Osman Gazi, practically a floating industrial facility,” to its post in the Black Sea.

“One in three households will use domestic gas”
“Our natural gas production in the Black Sea will double, rising to 20 million cubic meters per day,” Erdoğan said, adding that “from 2027, one in every three households will use our domestic natural gas.” Daily output at the Sakarya Gas Field is set to rise from 9.5 million to 20 million cubic meters.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said the number of households supplied with domestic gas is expected to rise from 4 million to 8 million, with the platform contributing an estimated $3.5 billion a year to the economy. At current prices, daily output is estimated to be worth about $10 million.
A giant platform
Osman Gazi is 298.5 meters long, 56 meters wide and 29.5 meters deep, with room for 140 personnel. It carries a 96-meter, 260-ton flare tower, 642 kilometers of electrical cable and about 30 kilometers of piping. Some 7,000 people worked on its conversion, in which 11 of the 21 topside facilities were rebuilt and 10 modified.
First unveiled in July 2024, the platform was named Osman Gazi on May 27, 2025, and sent to Filyos on May 29, 2025, where it underwent certification and modification. The first gas is planned to be flared before the end of this year, with production starting in early 2027, completing the second phase of the Sakarya Gas Field.
