A preparatory meeting for Subcommittee No. 3 on Industry, Trade and ECSC Products and Subcommittee No. 4 on Economic and Monetary Issues, Capital Movements and Statistics was held at the Directorate for EU Affairs of Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry. The directorate announced on Oct. 16 that the meeting was chaired by Elif Kurşunlu, director general for relations with the EU, with the participation of relevant institutions.
What do the subcommittees do?
The association relationship between Türkiye and the EU is based on the Ankara Agreement signed on Sept. 12, 1963. The subcommittees work under the Association Committee, which examines technical issues related to the association and prepares the agenda of the Association Council. Established by Decision No. 3/2000 of the Türkiye-EU Association Council of April 11, 2000, the eight subcommittees follow developments in the alignment of Turkish legislation with the EU acquis. The subcommittees have no decision-making power.

Subcommittee No. 3 deals with industrial products, trade and products covered by the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), while Subcommittee No. 4 covers economic and monetary issues, capital movements and statistics.
The other subcommittees cover agriculture and fisheries; internal market and competition; innovation; transport, environment and energy; regional development, employment and social policy; and customs, taxation, drug trafficking and money laundering.
