Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that they expect a first step from Kyiv after the scandal sparked by Ukraine's glorification of Nazi criminals.
In his statement, Tusk also noted that Ukraine is currently unable to recognize its own history.
Relations between the two countries have become strained again recently due to Kyiv's continued glorification of members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which is seen as a Nazi collaborator.
In late May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended a ceremony for the reburial of OUN-UPA leader Andriy Melnyk and his wife in the Kyiv region. During the same period, Zelenskyy named the "North" center of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces "In Honor of UPA Heroes".
Following these developments, Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked Zelenskyy's Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest decoration, citing the glorification of UPA members. Subsequently, some Ukrainian politicians returned Polish decorations, while Polish politicians returned Ukrainian decorations.
The UPA is designated as a banned extremist organization in Russia.
