Before the rally of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel in İzmir, police closed Cumhuriyet Square with barriers and TOMA water cannon vehicles. Police intervened with water cannons against citizens gathered on Cumhuriyet Boulevard, and some people were detained. While the rally area was blockaded by police, Özel started a march towards Gündoğdu Square with the crowd that arrived at the area. Participants chanted various slogans.
