President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commemorated the sixth anniversary of the Hagia Sophia Mosque's reopening for worship with a social media post.
In a post on the Turkish social media platform İn Sosyal, Erdoğan said, "The Hagia Sophia Mosque regained its true identity six years ago today, after 86 years of longing."

The president said, "This blessed structure will, God willing, continue to adorn our skies with the call to prayer forever... May the reopening of Hagia Sophia for worship be blessed."
Hagia Sophia was converted from a museum to a mosque on July 10, 2020, after the Council of State annulled the November 24, 1934 Cabinet decision. It was reopened for worship on July 24, 2020, with a decree signed by President Erdoğan. This step is considered one of the most significant turning points in modern Turkish history.
Located in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district, Hagia Sophia served as a mosque for 481 years as a unique masterpiece of art and architecture before being turned into a museum in 1934. The structure is regarded as one of the most important architectural landmarks in the Middle East.
