Results from the World Health Organization (WHO)-supported Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study show an increase in problematic social media use among adolescents in Europe.
According to the research, the rate of problematic social media use rose from 7 percent in 2018 to 11 percent in 2022.
Use higher among girls
The study revealed that in all countries examined, girls had significantly higher levels of problematic social media use compared to boys.
The report noted that girls tend to form more social connections online and have a different virtual experience than boys.
Banning efforts continue
As the study results were announced, it was shared that the United Kingdom is also making preparations to restrict children's access to social media, following France, Spain, and Austria.
