Protests that began with a hunger strike continue around the Delaney Hall Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center located in New Jersey, USA. As tensions rise between protesters and security forces, a curfew has been imposed in the area. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka announced that due to increasing security concerns and the need for police intervention, a curfew will be enforced in an approximately 800-meter radius from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Baraka stated that many people were detained during the protests and some were found to be carrying weapons. It is reported that about 300 immigrants held at the Delaney Hall facility have been on a hunger strike since May 22 in protest of poor conditions at the facility. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security denies allegations of mistreatment and lack of healthcare at the facility, claiming detainees are provided with three meals a day, healthcare services, and access to legal processes. The events in the area have occasionally led to clashes between police and protesters and the use of tear gas.
