The rapid increase in the number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Turkey has made the safe management of airspace mandatory. Within this scope, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure plans to establish a Drone Tracking and Traffic Management System. With the new system, the real-time locations of UAVs operating in Turkish airspace will be tracked and flight safety will be monitored centrally. Additionally, UAV flight permits will be managed digitally. With the establishment of the system, tracking of registered and authorized flights will become easier, flight conflicts of multiple UAVs in the same airspace will be detected, and operators will be warned. Notifications for agricultural operations carried out with UAV systems licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be made through the system without requiring additional authorization. The Directorate General will also ensure measures against illegal use of UAVs with this system. It is stated that the number of active UAV pilots in Turkey has exceeded 1.6 million and the number of registered UAVs is in the tens of thousands. This development is considered an important step towards the safe and controlled use of unmanned aerial vehicles.
