Qatar's Interior Ministry announced that an internal explosion occurred at a factory in the Ras Laffan Industrial Zone in the north of the country due to a technical fault. The ministry reported that Civil Defense teams were dispatched to the scene and necessary safety procedures were implemented.
No Injuries or Leaks Reported
The statement noted that no injuries or leaks of gas or hazardous materials threatening public safety were detected in the incident. Authorities stated that following the conducted checks, the incident did not pose a risk to the public.
A Reuters witness reported that the explosion was heard as a loud noise in the capital, Doha.
One of the World's Largest LNG Hubs
The Ras Laffan Industrial Zone is known as one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and export centers. Qatari authorities did not share information on whether the explosion affected LNG production or export operations in the region.
Ras Laffan was targeted by an Iranian missile attack in March of this year, resulting in damage at the facility. However, the Qatari administration attributed the latest explosion to a technical fault, not a military attack.
