Russia once again targeted the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a social media statement that attacks on five districts of the capital caused destruction to apartment buildings and other structures, and ignited fires.
Klitschko reported that nine people died in the attacks and more than 30 were injured, including four children. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote in a post: "It was a hellish night in Kyiv. Failing to achieve its goals on the battlefield, Russia is intensifying airstrikes and terror against civilians."
"Ukraine urgently needs additional air and missile defense systems as well as interceptor missiles," Sybiha added.
Russian Cruise Missile Falls in Poland
This was the second major attack on Kyiv this week. In Thursday's strikes, nine people, including six from the same family, were killed in a village near Kryvyi Rih, while a cruise missile reportedly belonging to Russia fell in Poland.
Military analysts note that although Russia's advance has slowed this year, fierce fighting continues along more than 1,200 kilometers of the front line.
