Six suspects have been detained in a bribery investigation targeting individuals and organizations linked to Seferihisar Municipality in İzmir. New evidence has been uncovered indicating that benefits were obtained in exchange for construction and zoning procedures.
The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reported that the investigation progressed based on findings obtained during operations conducted between May 18-20. During this period, it was determined that certain individuals and organizations connected to the municipality secured benefits in return for handling construction and zoning processes.
Simultaneous operations conducted for six individuals
Following the evidence, teams from the Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Division carried out simultaneous operations in İzmir, Istanbul, and Ankara. During the operation, Seferihisar Deputy Mayor İ. G. P, construction company officials S. B. and R. K. B, public official Ö. A., and company representatives S. Y. and R. Ö. were detained.
Digital materials belonging to the suspects, along with documents and data related to the investigation, were seized by law enforcement for examination. Authorities stated that the procedures are ongoing to uncover criminal elements.
Allegations of bribery amounting to approximately 6 million lira
The investigation revealed that an illicit benefit relationship was established between some municipal officials and private sector representatives during the execution of construction and zoning procedures. New evidence indicates that bribery transactions totaling around 6 million lira were conducted both in cash and through bank accounts.
Among the four suspects detained during the May 18-20 phase of the investigation, the municipality's procurement unit coordinator O. A., journalist E. A., and council member B. S. were arrested, while the other suspect was released following procedures at the prosecutor's office.
The names of those detained and the collected evidence reportedly reveal suspicious financial flows related to construction and zoning activities within the municipality. Judicial proceedings are ongoing.
