Syrian Education Minister Muhammed Abdurrahman Türko and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Damascus Nuh Yılmaz met in Damascus to discuss expanding cooperation in vocational and technical education.
The meeting, held at the Syrian Education Ministry building on Sunday, addressed ways to share the two countries’ educational experience and broaden cooperation.
The participants also discussed developing the education system and improving educational services to better meet students’ needs. Türko emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with Türkiye in education.
Yılmaz also invited Türko to Türkiye and proposed that he examine the country’s educational experience firsthand. The visit aims to increase the sharing of experience and expand areas of joint work.
Continuation of talks held in September 2025
The meeting followed talks held in Damascus in September 2025 between Türko and Türkiye’s Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. During that visit, Turkish officials responsible for vocational and technical education, curricula, information technologies and educational infrastructure also held meetings with their Syrian counterparts.
Syria’s vocational education plan
Syria is pursuing efforts to develop vocational education. Türko said in a briefing before the People’s Assembly this month that the sector’s current situation was being assessed in cooperation with the European Union and chambers of industry.
The plans include improving teachers’ professional qualifications, updating curricula and establishing new vocational education fields. The ministry has also prepared a draft law on vocational education.
