Taxpayers are showing strong interest in the arrangement implemented by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance's Revenue Administration (GİB) that introduces installment options for debts owed to the tax office. In the first 25 days, over 228,000 taxpayers applied and restructured a total of 206 billion lira in debt.
Under the arrangement, all debts with due dates on or before June 5, 2026 can be paid in installments. Various types of debts are covered, including income tax, corporate tax, value-added tax (VAT), fees, traffic fines, ecrimisil, judicial fines, and student loans.
Installment periods and preferences
For debts other than VAT, installment periods can extend up to 72 months, while VAT debts can be paid in a maximum of 12 monthly installments. The annual interest rate has been set at 29 percent.
The installment preferences of applicants were distributed as follows:
- 6 installments: 18.01 percent
- 12 installments: 30.69 percent
- 24 installments: 13.21 percent
- 36 installments: 25.19 percent
- 48 installments: 10.6 percent
- 72 installments: 2.3 percent
Collateral requirement and electronic application
Taxpayers whose debt does not exceed 10 million lira are not required to provide collateral, while for amounts over that, posting collateral equal to half the excess is sufficient. Applications can be made electronically via the GİB website, the Digital Tax Office, or e-Devlet without needing to visit the tax office.
Thanks to the installment plan, taxpayers are not subject to seizure, and no liens are placed on bank accounts, real estate, or vehicles. Those who restructure vehicle-related debts can undergo vehicle inspections and, if applicable, have any seizure annotations lifted.
Minister Şimşek: "Not an amnesty, but a convenience for willingness to pay"
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that the arrangement is not an amnesty but a system that preserves justice for taxpayers who regularly pay their taxes. Şimşek noted that the arrangement will provide convenience especially for groups such as tradespeople who have a "willingness to pay".
Final application and first payment dates
Taxpayers wishing to benefit from this opportunity must apply by August 31. The first installment payment can be made by September 30. Subsequent installments will be paid in the following months.
