Taylor Swift took the stage with Randy Newman at the Toy Story 5 premiere to perform a duet of the film’s iconic song "You’ve Got a Friend in Me". Swift’s surprise appearance was one of the most memorable moments of the event.
During the evening, Swift also performed live for the first time her original song for the film, "I Knew It, I Knew You". This new track stands out as a collaboration she wrote and composed with producer Jack Antonoff.
Original Song Debuts Live
The new song is described as being written from the perspective of the character Jessie. Swift emphasized that this piece marks a return to her country roots.
Following the announcement of the song, Swift shared a message expressing her lifelong admiration for the project. She said that writing a song for the Toy Story universe was both a new experience and felt like coming home.
Sharing the Stage with Randy Newman
As the night progressed, Swift reunited on stage with Randy Newman, whose music is synonymous with the series. While Newman played piano, the duo shared vocals on the 1995 classic.
"You’ve Got a Friend in Me" is known as one of the main musical themes of the series, making their duet a nostalgic highlight of the premiere.
Growing Anticipation as Film Release Nears
Toy Story 5 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19. Swift’s involvement in the project was officially confirmed only recently.
The artist’s connection to the film had sparked intense curiosity among fans in recent months. Clues shared on social media and online in May further fueled these expectations.
The story is said to continue after Woody stays with Bo Peep at the end of the previous film. Jessie now leads Bonnie’s room, with Buzz Lightyear in second place.
Meanwhile, Bonnie’s new favorite is described as a frog-like tablet called "Lilypad." The production also features Bad Bunny voicing a talking pizza slice named "Pizza With Sunglasses."
