Iran declared that the US military attack on the southern Hormozgan province violates international law and the United Nations Charter. The Tehran administration described the strike as a clear act of military aggression.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry reported that heavy attacks were carried out against US bases and interests in the region. The statement claimed these locations were the launch points for the recent attacks.
Tehran also warned that retaliation would continue if operations persist, signaling that tensions in the region could escalate further.
Warning to Gulf Countries
Iran urged neighboring Gulf states not to allow their territories and infrastructure to be used by the US and Israel in operations against Iran. This appeal indicated that the regional tension extends beyond just the two countries involved.
The US Central Command had earlier stated that a "legitimate defense" strike was carried out in three waves against military targets in southern Iran. The command claimed the operation was in response to the downing of a US Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, however, denied any deliberate attack on the helicopter. The two sides presented completely different accounts regarding the cause of the incident.
In response, Iran announced a drone operation targeting the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. This exchange of attacks and counterattacks quickly expanded to a broader area.
The latest statements reveal that tensions around Hormuz are rapidly rising and neither side is signaling a willingness to back down. The Gulf region has become one of the most fragile points for a potential new escalation.
