Şanlıurfa, home to important Neolithic sites such as Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe, will bring together its thousands-of-years-old cultural heritage and the new-generation technologies developed by Türkiye at the same event.
Technology competitions and air shows to be held
Science- and technology-themed competitions will be held at TEKNOFEST Southeast. Visitors will also be able to watch air shows and take part in various workshops.
The event is intended to help young people become familiar with new technologies and develop their interest in scientific fields.
Infrastructure preparations continue at the festival grounds
Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar said the event would be the most comprehensive organization held in the city to date. Gülpınar said preparations were continuing at GAP Airport, which will be used as the festival grounds, and that institutions in the city were working to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Gülpınar said Şanlıurfa Water and Sewerage Administration teams were working on the water and wastewater infrastructure at the festival grounds, adding that water was being transported from a distance of 7.5 kilometers and the necessary installations had been set up. The system has a capacity to meet the needs of 350,000 people per day.
Gülpınar said they expected more than 1 million visitors throughout the festival and that no vacancies remained at hotels and accommodation facilities in the city.
The Metropolitan Municipality's public works teams laid 136,000 square meters of asphalt at the festival grounds in coordination with the General Directorate of Highways. Municipal teams are also renovating VIP rooms and carrying out environmental landscaping and greenery works.
Various institutions to allocate vehicles for transportation
The Ministry of National Education will use its own vehicles to provide transportation to the festival grounds, while the T3 Foundation will use its own resources. Vehicles belonging to Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality are also planned to transport students and residents, in particular, to the event area at GAP Airport.
Şanlıurfa's gastronomy and music culture to be showcased
Municipal facilities and restaurants will serve visitors coming to the city for the festival so they can experience Şanlıurfa's gastronomic culture. Various events will also be held to showcase the city's music culture.
Following TEKNOFEST, Şanlıurfa will host the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Music Cities Meeting. Street musicians and local artists are planned to perform concerts on the streets and avenues between Divan Yolu and the Metropolitan Municipality.
