TERA Portföy chairman Erdin Özel, for whom an arrest warrant had been issued in the fund investigation run by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s money laundering bureau, was detained in Istanbul overnight into Sunday. TERA Yatırım CEO Emir Münir Sarpyener was also detained around midday on September 27.
Özel had been detained at the start of the investigation and released under judicial control with a travel ban, making this his second detention. No court decision has yet been made on either executive.
On September 25, the Capital Markets Board (SPK) filed a criminal complaint and imposed a two-year trading ban on 11 people, including Özel and Sarpyener, over trading in Özata Denizcilik (OZATD) shares, and cancelled Sarpyener’s licences. Özata Denizcilik shares also featured in allegations against Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, who resigned as AK Party deputy chair.
According to TRT Haber and Karar, the number of people arrested in the investigation has reached 51.
