AK Party spokesman Ömer Çelik issued a statement on the so-called fund crisis following the resignation of deputy chair Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya. Without naming anyone, he said every aspect of the issue had been closely followed by the party’s authorized bodies from the outset on the instructions of President and party leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Citing Erdoğan’s principle that “whoever is responsible will be held to account,” Çelik said: “Nothing will remain in the dark and what is necessary will be done. If there is an allegation, it will be investigated. All irregularities will be exposed. Those who did wrong will answer before the law.”
“There is no systemic risk to our financial system or the Turkish economy. Our foundations are solid. This is a problem that emerged in a limited part of the capital markets, in a certain number of funds,” he said, adding that legal and administrative measures are being prepared to prevent similar problems.
