U.S. President Donald Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, who traveled to the U.S. for the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham. "Graham was a true friend of Ukraine," Zelenskiy said in a social media statement after the roughly hour-long meeting, adding that they had held productive talks in the Oval Office.
"I thanked him for everything we have done together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and advance peace. I first conveyed our condolences to President Trump over the passing of Lindsey Graham. Graham was a true friend of Ukraine," he said.
Zelenskiy said: "We discussed with President Trump the licensing for production of Patriot missiles and some other proposals that could be beneficial. We also addressed diplomacy. Reviving the diplomatic process is of great importance. Our teams will determine the details of further contacts. I am grateful to the U.S. for its steadfast support."
Ukrainian media reported that the two leaders were expected to discuss a proposed air ceasefire to be presented to the Russian side. After his meeting with Zelenskiy, President Trump held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Trump, along with Zelenskiy and Netanyahu, is expected to attend the funeral service for Lindsey Graham later at the Washington National Cathedral.
