Tupac Shakur will appear as a character in the upcoming Stranger Than Heaven game with the approval of his estate. This move marks the transformation of the late artist’s digital presence, which began with a hologram, into a video game character.
The announcement was made by Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of RGG Studio, during the Summer Game Fest. Yokoyama described Tupac’s inclusion in the game as an "exciting new update" and explained that the decision was made because Tupac’s life aligns with the spirit of the game.
Following the presentation, event organizer Geoff Keighley took the stage to introduce Snoop Dogg from the game’s voice cast. Snoop Dogg expressed that they have worked closely with Tupac’s estate, making his addition to the game meaningful.
Not only Tupac but another deceased figure will also be portrayed in the game. The likeness of Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara will be used in the production. Thus, Stranger Than Heaven will feature a remarkable cast representing individuals who have passed away.
The producers have not yet shared details about Tupac’s exact role in the game. However, it has been noted that the game serves as a prequel to the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series and explores the origins of the Tojo Clan.
It was also revealed that Stranger Than Heaven will take place across various regions of Japan over a timeline spanning several decades. Alongside Snoop Dogg, voice actors such as Tori Kelly and Ado are also part of the cast.
The release date of the game has been confirmed. Stranger Than Heaven will launch on January 17.
