The İHA-230 Supersonic Ballistic Missile developed by ROKETSAN has been included in the inventory of the Turkish Land Forces Command for the first time. It was announced that the inspection and acceptance process for various amounts of ammunition has been completed and the system has entered the inventory.
İHA-230 stands out as an air-to-ground supersonic ballistic missile designed to be used from attack unmanned aerial vehicles. The system draws attention with its operational range exceeding 150 kilometers depending on the altitude and speed at which it is released.
Against which targets can it be used?
It was stated that the missile can be used against targets such as air defense radars, communication elements, command centers, light armored vehicles, and critical infrastructure facilities. Thanks to the GNSS-supported inertial guidance system, it was expressed that it can perform its mission with high accuracy even in electronic jamming environments.
It was conveyed that the İHA-230 operates on a "fire-and-forget" principle, performing a short free fall after separating from the unmanned aerial vehicle and then igniting its solid fuel motor to head towards the target.
Design and technical specifications
It was reported that the missile, weighing 225 kilograms, can be used with a pre-shaped particle effect warhead as well as various warhead options for different target types. The system can be integrated into domestic platforms such as AKINCI, AKSUNGUR, and KIZILELMA.
It was noted that this system is expected to contribute to the Turkish Armed Forces' long-range precision strike capability in operations targeting critical infrastructure behind enemy lines.
Over 100 kilometers target hit in the first firing test
It was stated that ROKETSAN developed the İHA-230 based on the TRG-230 Ground-to-Ground Ballistic Missile with its experience in multiple rocket launcher systems and the rockets and missiles used in these systems. The first firing test was conducted in December 2022, and it was reported that the AKINCI UAV took off from Çorlu and flew approximately 700 kilometers to reach the test site in Sinop.
The AKINCI UAV flying at 25,000 feet altitude fired at the designated target in Sinop, and the TRG230-İHA missile successfully hit the target from a range of over 100 kilometers. It was shared that in subsequent tests, the range reached 200 kilometers.
It was also stated that ROKETSAN continues development efforts for the 300 ER Air-Launched Ballistic Missile with a range of 500 kilometers.
