Turkey's Foreign Ministry condemned the Houthi threat of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. In a written statement on Wednesday, the ministry reiterated Ankara's solidarity with Riyadh.
The statement stressed that actions and threats endangering maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait, targeting maritime transport and global trade, must be halted immediately. The ministry said, "We reiterate our call to avoid any action that would escalate the existing tension in the region."
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced on Monday that a "maritime navigation ban" had been imposed on Saudi Arabia in response to the blockade Saudi Arabia has imposed on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
