Passengers flying from Türkiye to Moscow faced an unexpected disruption overnight. Four planes heading to Vnukovo Airport from Ankara, Istanbul, Dalaman and Bodrum changed course and returned to their departure airports because of restrictions in Moscow.
A source in the European Union's air traffic services told TASS that the aircraft turned back while over Lithuanian and Polish airspace. Another plane flying from Istanbul to Vnukovo was reported to have landed in St. Petersburg, and Vnukovo's online flight board reflects the changes.
Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) said temporary restrictions on arrivals and departures had been in place overnight at all Moscow airports to ensure flight safety and that they have now been fully lifted.
Travellers living in Russia or planning a trip to Moscow are advised to check the latest status of their flights with their airline and on the airport's flight information board before setting off.
