Work is continuing on a new customs gate planned to be opened north of the Kapıkule-Kapitan Andreevo border crossings under the coordination of the Ministry of Trade.
Delegations led by Deputy Trade Minister Sezai Uçarmak and Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev met at Kapıkule on September 10. The meeting addressed ways to reduce congestion at existing customs gates, particularly during holiday periods, and prevent citizens from having to wait in long queues.
The meeting also assessed measures to make border crossings faster and more efficient, accelerate export procedures to Europe and reduce the congestion exporters face at customs crossings.
The delegations agreed to coordinate legal and technical work so that the new gate can be implemented as soon as possible. Following the meeting, the delegations from the two countries inspected the site where the new customs gate will be built.
