Rihanna’s company, which belongs to the world-famous singer, won a lawsuit it filed against the trademark registered as “RIANNA” in Türkiye. Rihanna’s side argued that the similarity between the two names could confuse consumers. The court hearing the case in Türkiye ruled that the minor spelling difference between “Rianna” and “Rihanna” was insufficient to distinguish the marks.
Following the ruling, the registration of the “RIANNA” trademark in Türkiye was canceled. The defendant had argued that the name “Rianna” was not derived from Rihanna and had a different origin.
