Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to the US decision to extend by another year its lifting of the arms supply embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus. The ministry said the decision would deepen the loss of trust between the two sides on the island of Cyprus.
The US extended its decision to lift the embargo until September 30, 2027. Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it fully endorsed the views expressed in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Security of Turkish Cypriots emphasized
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus expressed its deep regret over the extension of the decision. It argued that the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus was increasing pressure on Turkish Cypriots on the island in every area and harming regional stability through intensive arms activities.
The statement emphasized that steps that would deepen the loss of trust between the two sides on the island of Cyprus should be avoided. Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said it would continue to defend the legitimate rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people and ensure their security under all circumstances.
The ministry also said efforts to help the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus attain its rightful position internationally would continue with determination.
