Germany await in the quarterfinals
Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team will face Germany in the quarterfinals on Thursday, September 3.
After the match, flowers were presented to Azerbaijani volleyball player Polina Rahimova, who ended her national team career. Head coach Volkan Demirel also watched the match from the stands with his family.
Santarelli: I cannot say we played a perfect game
Türkiye head coach Daniele Santarelli said after the match that they advanced by playing well in the first two sets.
Santarelli, 45, said Azerbaijan had a different style of play, noting that the team used high balls and had tall, important attackers. The Italian coach said they therefore had to make some changes, adding that they played better in the first two sets but saw their performance decline in the third.
Asked about the pressure on the team, Santarelli said they had felt it from the first day but that it could sometimes have a positive effect because it showed they were competing for important goals.
