Türkiye’s application for associate observer status in the Ibero-American Conference was accepted at a foreign ministers’ meeting held during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its satisfaction with the decision. The ministry also thanked Spain, which chairs the conference, its member countries and the Ibero-American Secretariat for their contributions.
Decision expected to be formalized in Madrid
Türkiye applied for associate observer status in a letter sent by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to the conference’s Secretary-General Andres Allamand on July 3.
The decision is expected to be formalized at the 30th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Ibero-American Conference, scheduled to take place in Madrid on November 4-5.
Areas of cooperation to expand
Associate observer status is expected to help Türkiye deepen its political dialogue with the conference’s member countries and expand cooperation in trade, culture and development.
Alongside Türkiye, Angola and India’s applications for associate observer status were also accepted.
